Yoga Poses for Taurus
Apr 24, 2023Taurus (April 21 – May 21) is the second of the 12 signs of the zodiac. Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, rules it. Venus is also associated with the period of adolescence.
A fixed sign, the element of Taurus is Earth, and its associated chakra is the heart chakra. The heart chakra is the energy center for love, compassion, and emotion in our bodies and in our lives.
The parts of the body linked with Taurus are the throat and the neck.
The bull can easily move between maintaining a steady pace and taking charge when it needs to. This sign is sensual. It rejoices in all of the physical sensations of touch, taste, smell, sound, and sight.
The yoga for this sign is reflective of the stability and earthiness of Taurus. The scattered energy of spring that we saw in Aries is coming to an end. In Taurus season, it is now time for grounding. This sign has an immense capacity to stay fixed and steady, and its yoga poses reflect that.

If you have Taurus in your sun, moon, or ascendant signs, the following yoga poses can be particularly helpful to practice. You can also add them to your yoga sequence if you are in Taurus season.
4 Yoga Poses for Taurus
1. Tree Pose (Vrksasana)
Tree pose perfectly captures the stability and earthiness of Taurus. The rootedness of a tree brings a calming, grounding, and balancing energy. This pose is therefore in complete alignment with the energy of Taurus.
While there are many variations that you can do with your arms, raising them toward the sky will also create expansion. It is a perfect mix of rooting down through the feet and blossoming through the arms, like the branches of a tree.
This is a great pose for improving posture and alignment as it strengthens the core, back, legs, and glutes.
2. Cow Pose (Bitilasana)
This pose is indicative of and honors the slow and steady rhythm of a cow. Cow pose is an easy and gentle backbend that prepares the spine for more vigorous poses.
Those born under the sign of Taurus can be workaholics. Cow pose helps relieve tension in the upper body – back, shoulders, and neck – all areas that we tend to accumulate stress in and are impacted by long hours of sitting at our desks.
This pose also helps activate the relaxation response, thus helping some of the bullish energy to calm down and counter any stress and anxiety.
3. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)
This is a pose that a Taurus or someone with strong Taurus in their charts can use in any way they need. It can be equally energizing, rejuvenating, and restorative.
Bridge pose can be practiced by yoga practitioners at any stage in their journey and always has much to teach. It strengthens the legs and hips. It also gives a massage to the spine and opens the heart chakra.
This pose helps cultivate a deep connection with the body and offers an opportunity to explore the whole range of movement in the spine with attention and care.
4. Neck rotations in Easy Pose (Sukhasana)
This practice involves gentle neck rotations while sitting in Sukhasana (Easy pose). Taurus is associated with body parts of the throat and neck.
Taurus energy can also be stubborn and stubbornness usually gets stored in the neck. By slowly and gently rotating the neck clockwise and anticlockwise a few times, it helps release the tightness in the muscles of the neck.
The one thing to be careful of is to make very slow and conscious movements so the neck is safe. If there is any dizziness, only make half circles.
