Yoga Poses for Pisces
Feb 22, 2023
Pisces is the 12th and final zodiac sign, where dreams take flight and spirituality meets the real world.
The modern ruling planet of Pisces is imaginative Neptune, and its historic ruler is Spiritual Jupiter. With these two planets as partners, Pisces beckons us to explore the boundless horizons of our souls.
Symbol: Two fish
Chakra: Sacral
Body Parts in Focus: Pituitary Gland, Pineal Gland, Feet
Planet Ruler: Neptune (modern), Jupiter (historic)
Element: Water
Pisces and the Body
The pituitary gland is responsible for the production of endorphins (manages stress) and the Pineal gland is responsible for the production of melatonin (sleep).
Since Jupiter rules Pisces, we can balance Pisces’ energy by balancing the sacral chakra. This chakra governs our creativity, sensuality, and sexuality and is linked to pleasure and joy. It is located just below the navel.
The Two Fishes of Pisces
The symbol for Pisces is two fishes swimming in opposite directions. It is said that one of them represents the physical side, and the other represents the spiritual side of our nature.
Yoga Poses for Pisces
The yoga for this sign has a meditative quality to it. It is both relaxing and elevating. We also focus on the feet, which promotes grounding and rootedness. It asks us to reflect on endings and beginnings.
1. Matsyasana (Fish Pose)
Fish pose helps you to delve into Piscean energy. It helps connect with the healing, compassionate, and sensitive energy of this sign.
Yoga texts say that when practiced in water, this pose enables you to float like a fish. Traditionally, it is practiced with the legs in Lotus pose. However, since that can be inaccessible for beginners, other options are to either keep the knees bent or with legs pressed against the floor.
Fish pose stretches the psoas and the intercostal muscles. It stimulates the muscles of the belly. It also strengthens the muscles of the upper back and the front and back of the neck.
2.Cobbler Pose (Baddha Konasana)
Also known as Bound Angle Pose, it is a great pose to open the hips and stretch the inner thigh muscles. It also strengthens the core and improves posture.
This pose is recommended for Pisces because it brings focus to the feet. A practitioner honors the feet by holding them and bowing to them.
Cobbler Pose lengthens and stretches the spine. A strong core helps to make the most of this pose. The core engages to prevent the rounding of the back and dropping into the posture.
Use this pose to improve posture and recover from running. It is also helpful for building body awareness.
3. Mountain Pose (Tadasana)
Mountain pose connects with Piscean energy by rooting through the feet. The feet do most of the work in this pose. They are engaged throughout and demand complete awareness.
A foundational pose, it incorporates the elements of alignment, connection to the earth beneath our feet, and feeling supported. The shoulders are open and down, promoting good posture. It also enhances stability.
This pose embodies balance and peace. It also empowers and helps us connect with our strength, encouraging us to connect with the energy of a mountain. Avoid locking the knees when in this pose.
4. Happy Baby Pose (Ananda Balasana)
This pose invokes ease and happiness in emotional and sensitive Pisces. Pisces has a deep capacity for empathy and are often submissive in nature. It can be hard for them to put themselves first.
Since Happy baby pose is restorative in nature, it provides them with healing and comfort. It releases all of the body with very little effort. It is deeply restful for compassionate and sensitive Pisces.
Happy baby pose frees up the back muscles and broadens the sacrum. It gently stretches the inner thighs, groins, hips, hamstrings, and back spine. It also helps find relief from stress and fatigue.
