Making Mystery Manifest: The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

full moon Oct 01, 2023

Every year during Scorpio season, the Full Moon in Taurus is an important point of contrast. While the intense Scorpio Sun dives deep into mysteries that would otherwise seem unsolvable, the Moon in practical Taurus asks a potentially overlooked question — what actually works on planet Earth?

Taurus is a grounded Earth sign. Its ruler is Venus, the planet of beauty and relationships. Though Venus also rules the idealistic air sign Libra, Venus in sensual Taurus tends to focus more on ease and comfort. This is where Taurus challenges Scorpio: Scorpio logic can become wildly tangled and complex, but the Full Moon in Taurus says you’re doing something wrong if you’ve made life that complicated.

Most years have one Full Moon in Taurus, though occasionally there are two. This year, the Full Moon in Taurus takes place at 4:24 pm EDT on October 28, 2023 — and it’s also a Lunar Eclipse!

Read on to find advice on engaging with the energy of the Full Moon in Taurus, as well as specific pointers regarding the Lunar Eclipse.

Watch out for:

  • Heated conflict. Scorpio and Taurus are both stubborn fixed signs. When the Moon in Taurus faces off against the Scorpio Sun, intense battles of wills are possible. You may not be able to change the other person’s mind once a fight gets going, so it might be necessary to get clear about what’s truly yours to control.
  • Overindulgence. Taurus loves sensual pleasures, and Scorpio tends to push for more and more intensity. At a Full Moon in Taurus, you might have trouble sticking to a diet or budget that you perceive as restrictive. Thoughtfully accepting the opportunity to blow off some steam may be necessary to prevent your indulgence from getting out of hand.

Get ready to enjoy:

  • Practical progress. Scorpio energy is great at identifying subtle undercurrents but not so good at coming up for air. The grounded insight of Taurus might help you determine what to do with all the interesting information you’ve accumulated lately. Taurus and Scorpio both have a focus on money matters, so looking at the financial side of an action you’re considering can give you needed direction.
  • Strong connections. Scorpio and Taurus are both loyal fixed signs. The Full Moon in Taurus is a great time to affirm or renew your commitment to a significant relationship.

Try these yoga poses:

For a Full Moon in Taurus, you’ll probably want to balance Taurus and Scorpio energy. Taurus, ruled by Venus, and Scorpio, ruled by Mars, both have to do with passion and desire, so there’s at least that common interest.

Another pair of signs with the same planetary rulers is Aries (ruled by Mars) and Libra (ruled by Venus), so a yoga flow that worked well at a Full Moon in Aries or Libra might have some similarities to a good yoga flow for the Full Moon in Taurus.

However, incorporating Taurus yoga poses and Scorpio yoga poses can help you really capture the vibe of the moment. For example, Sphinx Pose opens the heart, and the heart chakra is associated with Venus-ruled Taurus. Meanwhile, Sphinx Pose is also good for the abdominal organs associated with Scorpio’s solar plexus chakra.

However, if you are feeling too exhausted during this lunar eclipse to practice yoga, meditation is advised as well.

What makes this Full Moon a Lunar Eclipse?

An eclipse season is a time when the Moon’s Nodes align with the Sun and the Earth. During this season, the New Moons that take place are Solar Eclipses, and the Full Moons that take place are Lunar Eclipses.

Currently, the North Node is in Aries, and the South Node is in the opposite sign, Libra. The Full Moon at 5° Taurus on October 28, 2023, will take place close to the nodal axis, making it a Lunar Eclipse. Even though the Moon early in Taurus is not in the same Zodiac sign as the North Node late in Aries, they’re close enough to have a visible effect in some parts of the world.

Emotional release is common at any Full Moon, and it can be especially intense at a Lunar Eclipse. You can choose to shed unwanted emotional or physical baggage at a Lunar Eclipse, as you might at a typical Full Moon, but be aware that eclipse season energy is inherently unstable — things might unfold in a way that you didn’t expect!
