Release Negative Thoughts With Yoga
May 19, 2021What are negative emotions?
Negative emotions are a result of negative thoughts that one experiences throughout a day. Sometimes these thoughts are intrusive and seemingly feel like they come out of nowhere.
Other times, these thoughts are persistent and energy draining. People who experience stress, anxiety, or depression are more likely to experience negative thoughts regularly.
Here are some examples of negative emotions:
- Fear
- Anger
- Guilt
- Worry
- Sadness
Are negative feelings and emotions normal?
Negative thoughts are as normal as green grass. As humans, our nervous systems are designed to protect us from danger, even if that danger is self-imposed. When we get in this state of stress, thoughts and emotions can feel impossible to control.
While experiencing these emotions are uncomfortable, they can be a great source of information to help us overcome them.
How does yoga help?
One of the best ways yoga can help you control and mitigate negative emotions is with meditation and breathwork. A study done in 2009 at Hardvard University found meditation was an efficient way to help regulate the nervous system and practice mindfulness.
Yoga and mindfulness is a great way to practice observing your thoughts so that you can step outside of yourself or the situation enough and reflect on what happened.
