5 Practical Tips to Start a Meditation Practice

Mediation is an essential tool that helps us reduce anxiety by becoming more self-aware and present in our lives. While meditation can be intimidating to some, in this article, we're going to go over some simple ways you can incorporate mediation and mindfulness into your everyday life.

Meditation For Beginners

First, it's essential to be patient and focus on your breath when you start meditation. We have to learn to observe thoughts, sensations and emotions that appear in the mind -- acknowledge them and let them go. This can be difficult for beginners, but with time and practice, it will become easier.

Concentration is key in meditation -- focus on an object or your breath and let everything else fall away. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the object of your focus. Mindfulness is about being present in the moment and non-judgmentally observing your thoughts and surroundings.

Here are five practical tips to get started with meditation:

1- Pick a time and place where you can be uninterrupted for at least 20 minutes each day.
2- Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight, either in a chair or on the floor (with a cushion).
3- Close your eyes and focus on your breath, counting each inhale and exhale.
4- When thoughts enter your mind, simply acknowledge them and let them go by bringing your attention back to your breath.
5- If you find yourself getting frustrated or losing patience, remember that this is a process that takes time and practice.

The benefits of meditation are vast and include everything from stress relief to improved focus and concentration. In a world that is constantly moving and where we're bombarded with distractions, it's more important than ever to take time for ourselves to be present and mindful.

If you've been thinking about starting a meditation practice but don't know where to begin, hopefully, this article has given you the motivation and tools to get started.

Mindfulness is a journey -- there is no destination, only the present moment.
